EL CAMARON DORADO was established in March 1990, when it started looking for the optimal location for a shrimp farming facility, considering important factors such as water quality and ideal temperature for the biological shrimp development. Therefore, it was decided to locate our farms and laboratories on the Sea of Cortez, on the southern coast of Sonora, Mexico.
Our larvae production facilities have over 17 acres of land, with an infrastructure of 215,000 square feet.
We are the first laboratory that was built and which began postlarvae production operations in the state of Sonora.
A crucial part of the shrimp farming process is having excellent quality post-larvae, thus guaranteeing good production in the farms.
The quality of our products begins at the moment when totally certified broodstock is developed in a closed cultivation process, where they are selected under strict control standards, as regards growth, size, and survival rate, iniatiating their reproductive maturation and spawning cycle, within recommended temperature, salinity, and PH parameters, among others.
During the larval phase, shrimp are fed mainly with seaweed produced in our laboratory, as well as microencapsuled feed.
The white shrimp post-larvae production laboratory has a daily capacity of 7,000 broodstock individuals and a production of 25 to 30 millions naupli; furthermore, it has a monthly capacity of 240 millions post-larvae, and an intensive hatchery area for 100 millions post-larvae.
Biochemical engineers, fishery biologists, oceanographers, aquaculture engineers and technicians, work at our Bacteriology Deparment, forming a highly trained professional team.
